Bedirhan Bener is originally from Türkiye. He studied in Istanbul and the UK. In his previous roles as a Senior Project Control Manager at ACT Group Company, Tekfen Construction, and Polimeks Construction, he successfully managed different projects from conception to completion, ensuring that they were delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. These were designed and built projects with a total value of over £8 billion, including Dukhan Airbase, Al Khor Expressway, and Ashgabat Olympic Complex. His responsibilities included developing and monitoring project plans, calculating and controlling costs, identifying potential risks and issues, and implementing strategies to mitigate them.
Throughout his career, he has developed a strong understanding of project management methodologies and best practices, including Agile and Waterfall. He has also gained extensive experience using project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, and Power Project, which have helped him to manage complex projects efficiently and effectively.
He has a proven track record of working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, communicating effectively with stakeholders, and managing subcontractors and project budgets. He's also adept at problem-solving and has a strong ability to think critically, which has helped him to identify potential issues and foresee risks before they become problematic. To complete the Al Khor Expressway on time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, his team achieved two Guinness World Records regarding the asphalt laid with the successful coordination of all stakeholders, resources, machinery, and plant whilst minimising carbon emissions and conserving biodiversity.
In addition to his technical skills, he has excellent interpersonal skills, which have helped him to build strong relationships with clients and team members. He's a natural leader and enjoys mentoring and coaching team members to help them develop their skills and reach their full potential.
Bener achieved the 30th AEC Global Teamwork course at Stanford University with a Sustainability prize as a part of the Island team. His team delved into Building Information Modelling (BIM) to optimise project workflows and enhance collaboration. He also researched sustainability practices, understanding how to integrate sustainable design principles into projects to minimise environmental impact and promote resilience. Additionally, he explored the fascinating world of virtual reality (VR) and its potential applications in the AEC industry, from immersive design reviews to virtual project walkthroughs. His focus is on decarbonisation and scaling sustainability to reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy integration within the built environment.
